Monday Dec 6th Lesson

John 8:3-11 (The Message)

3-6The religion scholars and Pharisees led in a woman who had been caught in an act of adultery. They stood her in plain sight of everyone and said, "Teacher, this woman was caught red-handed in the act of adultery. Moses, in the Law, gives orders to stone such persons. What do you say?" They were trying to trap him into saying something incriminating so they could bring charges against him.
6-8Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger in the dirt. They kept at him, badgering him. He straightened up and said, "The sinless one among you, go first: Throw the stone." Bending down again, he wrote some more in the dirt.
9-10Hearing that, they walked away, one after another, beginning with the oldest. The woman was left alone. Jesus stood up and spoke to her. "Woman, where are they? Does no one condemn you?"
 11"No one, Master."
"Neither do I," said Jesus. "Go on your way. From now on, don't sin."

A young woman was caught in the act of adultery.
Religious leaders brought her before Jesus to have her put to death.
Jesus says only those who haven’t sinned can throw the rocks.
Jesus allows the woman to go free.

Recognize that EVERYONE has SINNED.

“All right, stone her. But let those who have never sinned throw the first stones!”
(John 8:7 NLT).

For all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious standard (Romans 3:23 NLT).

Realize that the JUDGING is up to JESUS.

“Teacher, they said to Jesus, “this woman was caught in the very act of adultery. Moses’ law says to kill her” (John 8:4-5).

Why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. . . . each of us will give an account of himself to God (Romans 14:10, 12).

Receive Jesus’ Judgment: FORGIVENESS.

Then Jesus stood up again and said to her, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” “No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more”  (John 8:10-11 NLT).

Because of his kindness, you have been saved through trusting Christ. And even trusting is not of yourselves; it too is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good we have done, so none of us can take any credit for it (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Thought for the week:

JESUS never throws ROCKS!
